Hello, just thought I would introduce myself. I am David, aged 28 and was diagnosed with JIA aged 2. I am only 4 foot 5 inches tall although I am now wheelchair bound most of the time can only transfer with help. I have a broken hip/femur which remains unhealed following a fall in May 2009 and a year in hospital on traction....they gave up in the end hahaha. I have also had two knee replacements and two hip replacements (the one is broken). I have also had my ankle fused and re-aligned this year as well as a hip revision due to a dislocation. I also have had major spine surgery to fuse my bones and have a stoma bag which is for life. All this is because of Arthritis, I have nothing else and ahve been trying to raise awareness of the condition in younger people for years, this is why I joined NRAS and to meet new people. I am also writing a book about my life. Also had MRSA and Meningitis. Remain now with severe deformity other condition is stable for now....touchwood! On steroids since diagnosis, methotrexate, meloxicam, tocilixazumab.
Hope all are well, I look forward to hearing from you all it would be nice to have a chat. xx

Hi David, Welcome! JIA has not been kind to you, has it? Sounds like your book would be interesting. I had a 25 week stint in hospital myself once and it was a real experience... I'm 35. Had JIA since 5. Had 6 hip replacement (and had a hip removed for a year too), fair amount of finger surgery (also one fused and two knuckles replaced a couple of weeks ago) and a wrist fusion. Were you treated at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow too? What other drugs have you been on over the years? I was reminiscing the other day about having gold injections as a child, just remembering they really hurt and how pleased I was when they didn't work. Kind Regards Amanda

Hi David! Nice to "meet" you
I am Jenni, 35 with severe crappy RA but I think in the RA game of Bingo you are pretty close to HOUSE with that list...!
I got RA when I was 20, but there are several people on here who had JRA and now RA sadly.
I'm married with 3 children. pretty much full time in wheelchair and hobbling hopefully with the frame in the house. I had a week of steroid pulses and so moving a lot better than I was.
I've managed to be allergic to the biological treatments and not have managed any positive reaction to DMARDS so am a bit stuck (often literally)
Been trying for this new JAK drug with NRAS...
Anyway- hello again.
Jenni how to be a velvet bulldoser

Would that be the David I know by any chance? Did you spend some time volunteering for Barc? If so it's lovely to hear from you. I'd heard you'd not been well but had no idea it was so bad. Welcome to NRAS too! Best wishes Jo. 2012 Fundraising for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/RoboJo

Hi David,
Welcome to the forum! You really do seem to have been through the mill with it! I consider myself "lucky" that I didn't start with RA till I was 51, and I really feel for you young ones. I am 62 now and take mtx and humira. Looking forward to getting to know you, and also looking forward to reading your book!
Love Doreen xx

Hi David. Welcome to the NRAS members forum. With all you have been through I'm sure you have a lot of wisdom to offer. I was only diagnosed in August this year but have had symptoms for a few years. I am 47 and grateful that RA did not strike until later in my life. I look forward to hearing more from you in the future. Best wishes from Naomi.

Hi David
Welcome to the forum. I am Sheila, married to Dave with 2 grown up sons. I am 60 and been diagnosed for 9 years and currently on mxt. David, I feel so humbled reading about what you have gone through, it makes my RA sound like nothing. Usually, I would say you will learn a lot from the forum etc, etc but I think everyone will learn a lot from you. I do hope you keep posting and enjoy talking to other people with RA especially younger people. Lovely to 'meet' you David.
Sheila x

Hi David, good to meet you on here. You have had so many challenges to get through so i know we will all value your experiences. Hope you can post often and feel the fantastic support this forum offers. Sometimes the only people who have really understood me all day are the friends on here. I'm Ailsa, almost 52 and about to start rituximab next month. I teach (currently being ofsted-ed, hence the posting in the wee small hours - i feel like I had a steroid boost without the benefits!)
Looking forward to getting to know you better and to reading your book! Xx Ailsa

Hi David, So nice to hear from you, and I feel for you having been through so much in your 28 years. You really are an inspiration to many sufferers on here. Having RA as a child must be so hard to bear and you have certainly been through so much. I did not get it until I was 48, it was bad then but now very well controlled. I wish you well with your book and every success in any future endeavours you do. Keep posting I love your positive attitude. Take care Lorna
